How to Make a Heart Cake

A heart cake is a delightful way to show someone you care, perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or just because! If you're feeling inspired to bake one yourself, here’s a simple recipe. But if you can’t be bothered or prefer to leave it to the professionals, remember that The Cupcake Queens can craft the perfect heart cake just for you!

Ingredients

  • For the Cake:

    • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
    • ½ tsp salt
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 cup milk
  • For the Frosting:

    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 4 cups powdered sugar
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2-4 tbsp heavy cream or milk (for consistency)
  • Optional Decorations:

    • Fresh berries
    • Edible flowers
    • Sprinkles
    • Chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Batter:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease and flour two heart-shaped cake pans (alternatively, if you don't have heart pans, bake in circular ones and cut to shape).
    • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk.
  2. Bake the Cake:

    • Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  3. Prepare the Frosting:

    • Beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix in the vanilla and cream/milk to reach the desired consistency (add colour if required)
  4. Assemble the Cake:

    • Once cooled, place one layer on your serving plate, frost the top, and then add the second layer.
    • Frost the top and sides of the cake.
  5. Decorate:

    • Get creative! Add fresh berries, edible flowers, or sprinkles to enhance your cake.

Conclusion
